Which topsoil should I choose—general-purpose or premium blend?
General-purpose (screened): great for levelling and laying turf.
Premium/planter blend: adds organic matter for better nutrients and water-holding—perfect for flower beds, borders and veg patches.
Is your topsoil peat-free and safe for veg?
Yes—our blends are peat-free and suitable for vegetable gardens.
How much topsoil do I need for my Newcastle garden?
Use Area (m²) × Depth (m) = Volume (m³).
Quick guide for homeowners:
New lawn base: 50–75 mm
Beds/veg: 200–300 mm
Raised beds: 300 mm+
Rule of thumb: 1 m³ ≈ 10 m² at 100 mm. A bulk bag (~0.6–0.8 m³) covers 6–8 m² at 100 mm.
Where can you place the bulk bag on delivery?
We use a tail-lift truck + pallet truck. We need firm, flat ground (no gravel/grass). If access is tight (terraced streets/back lanes common in the North East), we’ll drop kerbside.
Do you offer loose-tipped loads around the North East?
Yes—where available. Loose is ideal for larger projects in areas like Cramlington, Morpeth, Hexham, Chester-le-Street. You’ll need a suitable tipping area with clear overhead access.
What’s the soil pH?
Generally slightly acidic to neutral (pH ~6–7)—ideal for North East lawns and most plants.
Will there be stones in screened soil?
Screened soil can include small stones (to ~10 mm) which aid drainage. Premium blends are finer.
Can I lay turf straight onto this topsoil?
Yes—aim for 50–75 mm of firm, level topsoil, then lay turf and water well. This suits typical Tyne & Wear garden conditions.
How quickly can I get topsoil?
We offer weekday deliveries across the region and local pickup. Next-working-day is common; same-day pickup may be available earlier in the day—check the product page at checkout.
What if my drive is on a slope or the ground is wet?
Wet, soft or sloped surfaces can stop a pallet truck. If you’re unsure, send us a photo and we’ll advise the best delivery option.
How should I store a bulk bag before use?
Keep it covered and on firm ground. Use within a few weeks for best workability and nutrient profile.
What is screened topsoil?
Screened topsoil has been passed through a mesh (typically 10–20 mm) to remove larger stones and debris, giving a finer, easier-to-work soil for lawns and beds.
Do you deliver topsoil in Newcastle and the North East?
Yes. We deliver bulk-bag and loose topsoil across Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, North & South Tyneside, Sunderland, Durham, and Northumberland (NE, DH, SR postcodes). Kerbside delivery is standard.
