Grass lawn turf can be laid year-round in the North East, and the best times are spring (February - May) and autumn (September-November) when temperatures are mild and rainfall is regular - June and July are also great for laying ensuring it is kept moist.

Remove existing grass and weeds, rotovate the soil to 15cm depth, level the area with a rake, firm the soil gently, and add topsoil if needed to create a 5cm layer. The soil should be moist but not waterlogged before laying turf. We provide full preparation guides with every order.

New turf typically takes 2-3 weeks to root in spring/summer and 4-6 weeks in autumn/winter.

You can usually walk on it lightly after 2-3 weeks, but avoid heavy use for 6-8 weeks.

We cut your turf fresh on the day of delivery for maximum freshness which means sameday stock is very limited.

Water thoroughly immediately after laying - enough to ensure the turf and soil is fully moist.

Keep the turf moist for the first 2-3 weeks, watering daily in dry weather - try watering after sunset.

Before attempting to mow ensure the grass is fully rooted - gently lift the edge of the turf roll. If you cannot lift the turf roll the roots are well taken.

First mow with a high blade after approx. 2-4 weeks when grass reaches atleast 5cm height.

Avoid walking on/heavy usage during the first fortnight.
